Introduction

This handbook outlines the purpose, structure, and expectations of the NEST Taekwon-Do Support Committee.

The committee exists to support the school through community engagement, fundraising, and event support, helping to enhance the experience of all students and families.

The committee operates in a supportive capacity and does not form part of the instructional or operational management of the school.

Purpose of the Committee

The support Committee exists to:

  • Support the development of the NEST Taekwon-Do community
  • Assist with events and activities outside of regular training
  • Help create opportunities for students through fundraising and support initiatives
  • Strengthen communication between parents/guardians and the school

The committee plays an important role in supporting the wider success of the school.

Role of the Committee

The committee supports the school in areas that enhance the student experience. This may include:

  • Organising fundraising activities
  • Assisting with social and community events
  • Supporting travel and logistics for competitions or events
  • Helping promote the school within the local community

The committee may also provide general feedback from parents/guardians where appropriate.

Committee Structure

The committee is made up of volunteers from the supporter community.

There is no fixed size; however, it should consist of individuals willing to actively contribute.

Where appropriate, the committee may nominate:

  • A Chairperson (optional)
  • A Treasurer (optional)
  • General Committee Members

These roles are intended to support organisation and coordination but are not mandatory.

Meetings

The committee should aim to meet periodically, typically every 2–3 months, or as required.

Meetings may take place in person or online and should focus on:

  • Upcoming events
  • Fundraising ideas
  • Support for competitions or trips
  • General feedback and communication

Basic notes should be recorded where possible to ensure clarity of actions and decisions.

This may include:

  • Supporting competition travel
  • Contributing towards equipment or resources
  • Partnering with local businesses

Sponsors may be recognised through appropriate channels such as social media, events, or website acknowledgements.

All sponsorship arrangements must be agreed with the Chief Instructor before any commitments are made.

Events and Social Activities

The committee may support the organisation of events that strengthen the NEST Taekwon-Do community.

These may include:

  • Social gatherings
  • Celebration events
  • Fundraising events
  • Community engagement activities

These events help build a positive and supportive environment for students and families.

Boundaries of the Committee

The committee must not be involved in:

  • Instruction or teaching methods
  • Grading decisions or student progression
  • Behaviour management within classes
  • Safeguarding decision-making
  • Operational or administrative management of the school

These responsibilities remain solely with the instructor team.

Working with the Instructor Team

The committee should maintain open and respectful communication with the instructor team.

All activities, including fundraising, sponsorship, and events, must be discussed and approved by the Chief Instructor in advance.

This ensures alignment with the school’s policies, values, and safeguarding responsibilities.

Safeguarding Awareness

Although the committee does not manage safeguarding, all members should be aware that NEST Taekwon-Do operates under strict safeguarding policies.

Any concerns relating to student welfare or safety must be reported immediately to the Chief Instructor.

Committee members must not attempt to handle safeguarding concerns independently.

Conduct and Communication

Committee members are expected to act respectfully and responsibly at all times.

This includes:

  • Supporting a positive environment for students and families
  • Communicating appropriately with instructors and other parents/guardians
  • Raising concerns through appropriate channels

Social media should not be used to raise complaints or concerns relating to the school.

Community Spirit

The Support Committee plays an important role in building a positive and inclusive community.

Through its support of events, fundraising, and student activities, the committee helps create an environment where students feel encouraged, supported, and proud to be part of NEST Taekwon-Do.
